Sample Structured CV

A "structured CV" simply means one where information is grouped into clear, predictable sections — as opposed to a narrative-style document that buries your experience in paragraphs. Recruiters skim CVs in seconds; structure is what lets them find what they need in that window.

The standard section order

1. Header — name and role, with phone, email, and location (city/country is enough).
2. Professional summary — two to three sentences pitching who you are and what you're looking for.
3. Work experience — reverse chronological, most recent job first.
4. Education — degree, institution, graduation year.
5. Skills — grouped by type (technical, language, soft skills) rather than one long list.
6. Extras — certifications, volunteer work, or projects, only if relevant to the role.

What "structured" looks like in practice

Under each job, use short bullets that start with a verb and end with a result: "Reduced order-processing time by 30% by introducing a shared tracking sheet" tells a recruiter more in one line than three sentences of description. Keep bullets to one or two lines each — a wall of text defeats the purpose of structuring the document at all.

Common structuring mistakes

• Mixing tenses (use past tense for previous roles, present for your current one).
• Listing responsibilities instead of results ("responsible for customer calls" vs. "resolved 40+ customer calls per day").
• Skipping dates or using inconsistent date formats — pick one format (e.g. "Jan 2022 – Mar 2024") and keep it throughout.
