Waiter / Server Resume Example

Serving resumes stand out with specific numbers most applicants leave out: tables handled per shift, average check size, and any upsell or repeat-guest results.

Example experience section

Server — Full-Service Restaurant (2021–Present)

  • Managed 6–8 tables per shift during peak dinner service, averaging $2,800 in nightly sales
  • Increased average check size by 15% through consistent dessert and appetizer upselling
  • Trained 3 new servers on menu knowledge and service sequencing

Skills recruiters check for

POS system experience (Toast, Aloha, Micros), alcohol service certification where required, menu and wine knowledge, and experience with high-volume or fine-dining service.

Common mistakes on a server resume

Writing "friendly and outgoing" with nothing quantifiable behind it — table count, nightly sales, or upsell rate carries far more weight with a restaurant manager. Omitting service style experience (fine dining, high-volume casual, banquet), which signals whether your pace and polish match the venue. Leaving off alcohol service certification when the posting requires it.
